A staff member of the Nigeria Television Authority, Yahaya Isa, who traveled with his family for a special occasion in Birnin Gwari, were kidnapped by bandits on their way back to Kaduna.

Another reputable source also revealed on Sunday last week around 3:00 am, bandits attacked Kirazo village along the Birnin Gwari Funtua road and abducted a former village head known as Basaw and another person at Maigwari village, called Dayyabu.

A staff member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Salisu Haruna, was also kidnapped on the same area while traveling back to Kaduna on Saturday.

Police Public Relations Officer Yakubu Sabo said he could confirm only the abduction of Isa and two other persons traveling with him in the vehicle.

He said the state command’s anti-kidnapping unit was making efforts to rescue the captives.

“However, that of the staff of the House of Assembly may not have been reported to the police,” he said.

Our correspondents learnt that the past one week had been challenging for commuters on the road.

A group, the Birnin Gwari Vanguard, in a statement by its chairman, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, said Isa was abducted on September 10.

The group said Isa, his wife and cousin, Sama’ila Buhari and another married woman, Ummah, were abducted.

The group said the kidnappers had cut the line of communication for the past 72 hours after a deadlock on the mode of a ransom payment.

The group also said Barrister Salisu Haruna was kidnapped on Saturday around 3.00pm near Kuriga along the Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highway.

“While others that were together with Barrister Salisu were rescued by the police, he was unlucky to fall into the hands of another group of armed bandits as he was trying to escape.”

The kidnappers, the group said, were demanding N10 million on Salisu, while negotiation for ransom on the NTA staff member was yet to be concluded.
