Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself, and it is the driving force behind our confidence. Having self-esteem encompasses our self-worth, sense of value, and significance.

That’s why this is essential to everyone. Having solid self-esteem has the power to impact your life positively, from your relationship, career, fulfillment, and well-being.

If you are low on self-esteem, do not worry, this is something that grows and can be nurtured over time, and I will be explaining how this can be achieved.


Remember, as I mentioned earlier, self-esteem is one’s worth, that is, the worth or value you attach to yourself deep within.

The causes of low self-esteem are numerous, and it might be as a result of an unhappy or abused childhood, Traumatic experience, past experiences of failure, Negative self-talk, etc. but the ways you can improve your self-esteem are:

  • Get to the Root Cause

Identify the real or root cause of your low self-esteem, which is the first step in getting out of low self-esteem.

The reasons might be what you heard from your childhood or by past experiences. If need be, find someone who can help uncover and address past experiences and root issues.

  • Look for the Good In You

Change your mindset and how you think of yourself.

If you see yourself as worthless, you get to find images that back that thought up in your life, and if you see yourself as worthwhile, memorable, and beautiful, you find such ideas that support that up, so go for the proper thought.

Anytime a negative thought or feeling crosses your mind, identify and focus on the contrary of that image. No matter how unrealistic it might look, there’s no harm in thinking or feeling it. Identify things you like about yourself and focus on them.

  • Stop Negative Self-Talk


You have low self-esteem due to the negative stories and thought you keep telling yourself.

If you keep focusing on one horrible past mistake or experience, it will reinforce and strengthen your negative thoughts, which lowers your self-esteem.

If you tell yourself you are worthless and don’t deserve to be happy or loved, then your mind conditions itself that way.

Don’t be defined by past experiences or mistakes; you can influence your life through your words, so speak and think the right word.

  • Identify Who You Are and Be True to That


Next, you need to identify who you are, self-awareness, and are critical to your success and key to building your self-esteem.

Not have a soul-searching moment where you remember whom you are, outside the image others have painted you to be, can do no good to your self-worth.

Many people have spent so much time trying to fit into the image others what them to be that we completely lost our self. So spend some time to know yourself, identify yourself, your strength, talents, and uniqueness.

  • Accept Yourself

Accept every inch and part of you, your strength and weaknesses, regardless of what you are told. Remember, only you can see the worth in you.
