Quavo is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for being the co-founder and frontman of the hip hop trio “Migos,” which rose to fame in 2013 with “Versace.”

Early Life

Quavious Keyate Marshall, popularly known as Quavo, was born April 2, 1991, to Frank Morley and Lilian Janet Bird in Athens, Georgia.

He grew up in Gwinnett County with the two other “Migos” members, Takeoff, his nephew, and Offset, his cousin, both related to him maternally.

Quavo attended Berkmar High School, where he played quarterback for the school’s football team during the 2009 season, which was his senior year.

However, he dropped out just months before graduation to pursue a music career alongside Takeoff and Offset.

Career

In 2008, Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset formed “Migos .”Although it was initially known as “Polo Club,” over time, the trio decided to change the group’s name to “Migos,” stating that they felt Polo Club was too generic.

Migos officially took off on August 25, 2011, with the release of a mixtape, “Juug Season.”

This was later followed by another mixtape, “No Label,” on June 1, 2012. However, the group didn’t rise to fame until 2013, when they released the single “Versace,” which Drake later remixed.

The track, upon its release, peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 31 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The success of this song made the Migos very famous, earning them a deal with “300 Entertainment”.

Following this success, Quavo debuted as a solo artist with “Champion,” featuring several well-known artists. Again, the song was a commercial success, peaking at number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Subsequently, Migos released their first studio album and later their second titled “Culture,” which peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.

With this success, the trio became a household name, each member becoming a music sensation.

Subsequently, Quavo got music features from several artists, including the songs “Congratulations,” “I’m the One,” “Portland,” “No Brainer,” among others.

In 2016, Migos collaborated with Lil Uzi Vert on the hit single “Bad and Boujee,”‘ which debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became a viral hit.

The following year, Quavo landed a feature on the 2017 “The Fate of the Furious: The Album” alongside Lil Uzi Vert and Travis Scott on the song “Go Off.”

Over time, the song was certified Gold by the RIAA. In December of the same year, he featured Lil Yachty on the song “Ice Tray,” which reached number 74 on Billboard Hot 100.

In December 2017, he collaborated with Travis Scott on the “Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho .”The eight-song album was a commercial success debuting on the Billboard Hot 100.

On January 26, 2018, Migos released “Culture II,” its third studio album. Subsequently, Quavo worked on his debut solo album and released three singles to that effect “Workin Me,” “Lamb Talk,” and “Bubble Gum.”

Workin Me” soon became his highest-charting single, peaking at 52 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Personal Life

Quavo, on May 2020, announced via his Instagram account that he had graduated from high school after dropping out in 2009.

He is the co-owner of “FCF Glacier Boyz,” a team in the Fan Controlled Football League, which he owns alongside three other individuals.

Controversy

Members of Migos, alongside some of their entourage on April 18, 2015, were arrested, stopping their concert at Georgia Southern University by the authorities.

Quavo, a part of the trio, was charged with possession of an unspecified Schedule II narcotic, possession of marijuana, a firearm in a school safety zone, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

However, the rapper was released from jail on bond and received a 12-month sentence, later suspended due to fines.

NBA Award and Recognition

Quavo participated in the 2018 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game and earned an MVP Award following his 19-point performance and victory.

He also played in the 2019 and 2020 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

Relationship

Quavo began dating Saweetie in September 2018. However, on March 19, 2021, Saweetie revealed that she and the rapper were no longer together via her social media account.

In a song released after their breakup, Saweetie accused Quavo of cheating.
