Early Life and Education

Mercy Johnson Okojie or Mercy Johnson, as she is popularly known by Nigerians, was born on the 28th of August 1984 into a family of high moral value; consisting of her father, Daniel Johnson who was a navel officer, and her mother, Elizabeth Johnson who was a homemaker that stayed back at home to ensure that her seven children are taken care of.

The job her father had at the time required the family to move from one city to another. Mercy first began her education in Calabar, and not long after, she moved to the Nigerian Navy Primary School, located in Lagos.

After spending some time at this school, she eventually moved and started attending the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, located in the city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Acting Career and Breakthrough

Mercy’s family was going through financial hell after she finished secondary school. Because of this, she couldn’t attend the university, leaving her with only one option at the time — acting. Since there was no option left, she decided to give acting a shot and audition for a movie titled “The Maid”. She was eventually chosen to play the role of a housemaid who was possessed by a spirit.

This movie brought her fame. She performed so well that she began to receive acting gigs from other production companies, most of which were offering her roles in their movies, and Mercy did not disappoint.

She has acted in more than 200 movies. Most of these roles have different genres, including comedy, romance, action, or a blend of any of them.

Awards and Recognition

Mercy Johnson encountered a problem in 2013 when some producers banned her because of the pay cut she had requested. As a result, she was unable to act for a considerable period. After some time, the ban was lifted and she was able to return to the set.
