Wazir Begum’s husband, Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt, was born on May 22, 1878.

He was a professional wrestler and grappler who fought in 5,000 matches throughout his lifetime.

He was also nicknamed the “undefeated wrestler” and “the Tiger” during the peak of his career.

Great Gama began training to be a wrestler when he was 10 years old, and during that time he underwent rigorous body training.

He had a daily workout routine of 500 lunges and 500 push-ups.

In 1888, he joined a lunge contest in Jodhpur, where he competed with over 400 wrestlers.

After the match, he bagged the Maharaja of Jodhpur’s title. Through the game, he was able to become more popular all over India.

The Great Gama also wrestled and defeated popular wrestlers like “Doc” Benjamin Roller, Jesse Peterson, Johann Lemm, and Maurice Deriaz.

His victory after the match earned him the 1910 Indian World Heavyweight Championship title and the 1927 World Wrestling Championship.

When Did Wazir Begum Die?

Wazir Begum died on March 18, 1983, in London. She was 62 at the time of her death, which is rather unfortunate as she didn’t get to live a long life.

Her husband, The Great Gama, died years before she did. He died on May 23, 1960, a day after his 82nd birthday, due to a heart condition.

· Bruce Lee was a big fan of the Great Gama’s workout routines, “The Cat Stretch” and “The Squat,” and he spent time studying them.

· He had such extraordinary strength that, at the age of 20, he shockingly lifted a stone weighing 1,200 kg.

The same stone would have required the assistance of 25 people to lift. Due to this amazing feat, the stone was kept at the Broda Museum.

· Google celebrated the 144th anniversary of Great Gama’s death by creating a Doodle for him on May 22, 2022.

Wazir Begum and the Great Gama had nine children together.

Unfortunately, all five of their sons died at a young age. After the youngest son died at the age of 13, in 1945, Great Gama was so devastated that he became dumb for some days.

Thankfully, their daughters survived and bore their children.

Wazir Begum’s granddaughter later became a politician and the First Lady of Pakistan. Her other granddaughter, Sairo Bano, also married a public figure.
