Apple Cider Vinegar: The Superfood in Your Kitchen Cabinet


Apple Cider Vinegar, or ACV, is a sour liquid from apples. It has been used around the world for hundreds of years. Its usefulness is not only limited to cooking but is also used as a remedy for different health problems.


For apple cider vinegar to be produced, apple passes through a fermentation process. The apples are first crushed and exposed to a microorganism called yeast. The primary purpose of this microorganism is to convert the sugar content of the apple into alcohol.

After this process has been carried out, the alcohol will be added to a specific kind of bacteria, thereby converting it into acetic acid. This acetic acid is the primary active compound within ACV that is responsible for the benefits that the vinegar has to offer.


What makes ACV spectacular is the presence of a substance called “the mother”. The “mother” is a cloudy substance containing different compounds that form naturally after fermentation. Some of these substances include enzymes, beneficial bacteria, and proteins.

Much research is ongoing to validate most of its health benefits; however, some studies have proven that ACV possesses several health-supporting qualities.

Helps In Controlling Blood Sugar Levels

Many studies have been conducted on apple cider vinegar to determine its effect on blood sugar levels.

It has been discovered from some of this research that ACV may help increase the sensitivity of insulin, a hormone that aids in controlling the body’s blood sugar levels.

As the sensitivity of this hormone is increased, sugar will be moved from the blood to other cells in the body that need it.

Some other studies have shown that taking ACV before eating a meal with a high carbohydrate level can help prevent blood sugar spikes.

People with diabetes may benefit significantly from this, but it’s important to remember that ACV shouldn’t be used in place of medical care. It should only be utilised in conjunction with it.

Aids In Weight Loss

Apple Cider Vinegar is not the perfect solution for those suffering from excess weight; however, it can immensely benefit weight management. Apple cider vinegar’s acetic acid content can help reduce the rate at which the body system craves food, thereby suppressing the appetite accordingly.

As long as an individual feels full after eating a particular meal, they tend to consume fewer calories, thereby managing their weight.

A study was conducted on some individuals in Japan. The main aim of this study was to see ACV’s effect on weight. Some participants were given a small dose of apple cider vinegar daily. After 12 weeks of this test, each participant experienced a decrease in body fat and weight.

Boosts Skin Health

Many people today deal with skin care issues such as skin infections, eczema, and acne. Adding apple cider vinegar to their skin care routine can remedy their skin problems.

Apple cider vinegar possesses special antifungal and antibacterial properties. These features can help remove and eliminate breakouts on the skin.

Apart from the skin benefits mentioned above, apple cider vinegar offers another advantage regarding skin health. The product obtained when ACV is diluted with water can remove excess oil from the skin and restore the skin’s pH balance.
