Ashley McBryde was born on July 29, 1983, in Saddle, Arkansas, US. She was born into a strict household with a preacher father, William McBryde, and Martha Wilkins.
She grew up having curiosity about music and hearing songs by “The Carpenters and Kris Kristofferson.”
Ashley played with her father’s guitar, which made her parents buy her own.
Her first song was written when she was 12, and her trips to bluegrass festivals alongside her mother served as an inspiration to build her music career.
While in high school, Ashley joined a band and later attended Arkansas State University, where she learned how to play the French horn.
She also performed regularly in clubs close to Memphis, Tennessee.
During a class session, her college professor noticed how little interest she had in her studies and encouraged her to drop out to pursue music fully. Ashley took the professor’s advice and dropped out.

Career
Ashley released a demo album in 2006, and by 2007 she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to fully pursue her career.
She joined the band “Deadhorse” and performed at gigs, including biker bars, hangouts, and other eccentric places in the Nashville area. She also worked day jobs at Guitar Center and did open mic nights.
Ashley won the Country Showdown competition in 2009 and 2010.
Her band later won the “Battle of the Bands Contest,” a Tennessee state-wide competition.
She started her tour after releasing her second demo album called “Elsebound.” Her EP “Jalopies & Expensive Guitars” was released in 2016.
Eric Church discovered her EP and invited her to play her song Bible and a .44, along with him on stage, during his Holdin’ My Own Tour.
Her performance video went viral, and she was constantly called to perform during concerts.
As a result, Ashley signed a management deal with Q Publishing, and also around this time, she recorded her debut studio album, which was heard by Cris Lacy, Warner Music Nashville, senior vice president.
He signed her into the label in 2017. Still, in 2017, Warner Music released her debut single “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega.”
The song moved to Number 30 on Billboards Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs Chart.
It was further named one of the best 54 songs of 2017 by the New York Times and Top 25 Best Country Songs of 2017 by Rolling Stone.
Her album “Girl Going Nowhere” was released by the label in 2018 and reached number 7 on Billboard Top Country Albums chart, hitting 49 on Billboards 200.
Ashley has released other albums and songs, with her latest being; Never Wanted to Be That Girl, a song she collaborated with Carly Pearce, which she released in September 2021.
