Biography of Guy Bedos | Early Life, Family, Cause of Death

Guy Bedos was a French screenwriter, actor, and stand-up comedian, known for his role in “Nous irons tous au paradise.”

He supported politicians like François Mitterrand; thus, he was famous for his left-wing political affiliation.

Biography of Guy Bedos | Early Life

Guy was born on 15 June 1934 in Algeria, a former French colony.

His father, Alfred Bedos, was a health visitor and his mother was the daughter of the headmaster of the high school Bugeaud.

His parents later got separated, and Guy was tossed around the home to a hotel in Kouba.

At the age of thirteen, he enrolled in a high school in Bone. Growing up, he had a bad relationship with his mother and stepfather.

His stepfather abused his mother physically; his mother, in turn, abused him physically.

According to Guy, his stepfather was racist and anti-Semitic. In addition, during this time, Guy had developed obsessive-compulsive disorder.

He went to Paris in 1949 with his parents and twin half-sisters.

In 1950, he left the family home at Rueil-Malmaison and sold books going from door to door.

At 17 years, Guy enrolled in Blanche school, where he learned classical theater and signed his first production titled: Marivaux Arlequin poli par l’amour.

After that, he played in theater and cabarets; Jacques Peévert once found him writing and encouraged him to write sketches.

He did this and performed his first sketch, signed by Jacques Chazot, “La Galerie 55”. His first cinema appearance was made in 1954, in “Futures Vedettes by Marc Allégret” cinema.

In 1965, Guy started the music hall “Bobino,” which was co-starred by Barbara.

His career as a comedian began with his second wife, Sophie Daumier, with whom he formed a duet and later married on 19 February 1965.

However, his solo career in film and television started in 1977, after he divorces Sophie.

In the 1970s, Guy played the recurring role of Simon in An Elephant that Deceives Enormously and, We Will All Go to the Paradise of Yves Robert.

After that, he directed and performed many shows, including “La Résistible Ascension by Bertolt Brecht.

Guy Bedos did not support any political party but was described as a “man of the left” politically.

He moved to Hénin-Beaumont to support the candidacy of Jean-Luc Mélenchon in 2012. Guy showed support for Yvan Colonna in 2008, and he was also a member of the League of Human Rights.

He showed his support to Jean-Luc Mélenchon to market for the Republic Life of rebellious France on 18 March 2017.

Guy Bedos was married thrice. First to Karen Blanguernon, whom he had a daughter, “Leslie Bedos,” within 1957.

He later married Sophie Daumier; together, they had a daughter, “Melanie” born in 1977. Guy’s third marriage to Joelle Bercot produced two children Nicolas in 1980 and Victoria in 1984.

At the age of 85, on 28 May 2020, Guy Bedos passed away, his son, Nicolas Bedos, confirmed his death.
