Bonnie Kathleen Gilliland is famous as the son of the Hollywood actors, Jean Smart and Richard Gilliland. Bonnie was born a girl, but after changing his gender, he now identifies himself as a boy, and also goes by his new name, Forrest Gilliland.

In May 2009, the famous actors and their biological son Connor Douglas Gilliland went to China to adopt Bonnie who at the time was a 10-month-old girl. The date of birth of Bonnie Kathleen Gilliland is not known to the public, but he was born in 2008.

He moved to America in 2009 from China after he was adopted by Jean Smart and Richard Gilliland.

Bonnie Kathleen Gilliland is Now known as Forest Gilliland

After Bonnie came out as transgender, she changed her name to Forrest Gilliland. Her transition has been smooth, with the support of his family, he has now come out as a boy and attended the Emmys with his mother in 2021, where he proudly flaunts his new gender on the red carpet. Jean during a speech sends appreciation to her two sons whom she said are both courageous in their own right.

Richard Gilliland and Jean Smart adopted Bonnie in 2009. Jean Smart was born in Seattle, Washington, United States on September 13, 1951, to her father, Douglas Alexander Smart, and her mother, Kathleen Marie.

She studied at Ballard High School in 1969 before proceeding to the University of Washington Professional Actors Training Program where she graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Her upbringing didn’t go smoothly as one would have expected as she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13.

Meanwhile, Richard is famously known for his acting career that spanned nearly five decades. His movie credits include Airplane II: The Sequel and Designing Women. Richard was born on January 23, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas, United States.

Bonnie’s parents met during the set of Designing Women, the couple got married in 1987 and gave birth to their first child, a son on October 25, 1989, named Connor Douglas. Jean had a lot of complications during her pregnancy with Connor.

She couldn’t control her blood sugar level and had to be closely monitored to make sure her pregnancy was developing properly. After the birth of Connor, Jean and Richard decided to adopt their second child in 2009.

The couple went to East Asia where 10-month-old Bonnie lives. Bonnie was however born sometime in 2008, as her adoptive parents are Americans, Bonnie became an American after her adoption.

Sadly, Bonnie’s father, Richard Gilliland passed away at the age of 71 on March 18, 2021. Richard and Jean were married for over three decades. The 71 years old actor died after a brief illness in Los Angeles, California.
