Charlize Theron is a South African-American actress and producer named one of the highest-paid Hollywood actresses due to her successful acting career.

She is the only child of Gerda, a road constructionist, and Charles Theron, and her ancestry includes Afrikaner, Dutch, French, and German.

Charlize’s childhood was spent on her parent’s farm in Benoni, in South Africa. Her father was an alcoholic who threatened her and her mother physically.

On 21 June 1991, after another of his drunk episodes, her father was shot died by her mother after the incident turned ugly with him threatening to kill them both and firing a gun at them.

The shooting was adjudged as self-defense, so Charlize’s mother faced no charges.

Charlize attended “Putfontein Primary School and was later enrolled in a boarding school before attending the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg.

But, unfortunately, childhood wasn’t so pleasant for the award-winning actress. Aside from her father’s tragedy, she was frequently unwell with Jaundice.

Charlize Theron’s journey to fame started after winning a one-year modeling contract at the age of 16.

After modeling for a year throughout Europe, she moved to New York with her mother, there she enrolled in Joffery Ballet School and trained as a dancer until a knee accident which put an end to her dream of becoming a dancer.

Through the help of her mother, she flew to Los Angeles but had a hard time living and feeding until she met talent agent John Crosby at a Hollywood Boulevard bank.

Charlize was trying to cash a few cheques but was told she couldn’t because she wasn’t an American citizen and because it was also out-of-state.

However, John Crosby, who was also present, was impressed by how she argued and pleaded with the bank teller.

After helping her cash the cheques, the talent agent gave her his business card, which was how her acting career began.

He introduced Charlize to acting school, and in 1996, she had her first speaking role in the film “2 Days in the Valley”, where she played the role of Helga Svelgen, a hitwoman.

Later on, she met talent agent J. J. Harris became her agent for over 15 years until his death.

Charlize Theron’s breakout film was the 1997 horror film “The Devil’s Advocate,” She appeared alongside Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino.

The film was said to have been a commercial success. By the early 2000s, she consistently made a regular appearance in different movies, which helped shape her career.

In 2003, Theron appeared in the heist film “The Italian Job,” where she played the role of a safe and vault technician; the film soon became a box office success recording a grossing of $176 million.

That same year, she got another role in the movie “Monster,” playing a serial killer and a former prostitute.

For her unique interpretation of the character, Charlize was awarded the “Academy Award for Best Actress” at the 76th Academy Awards in 2004.

She subsequently won the “Screen Actors Award and the Golden Globe Award.” In addition, she became the first South African to win an Oscar for ” Best Actress,” due to the new fame, Charlize became among the highest-paid actresses earning up to $10 million per film.

That same 2004, she landed another significant role in the HBO film “The Life and Death of Peter Sellers,” where she played Britt Ekland; like her previous films, this became a success earning her a “Golden Globe Award.”

She later appeared in the science-fiction thriller “Aeon Flux,” where she played the lead role.

For her voice-over in the film’s video game, Charlize was awarded a Spike Video Game Award” for “Best Performance by a Human Female.”

In 2005, she played a single mother and an iron mine worker in the film ” North Country; her role in the film earned her an “Academy Award.”

That same year, on 30 September 2005, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Later on, in 2007, she produced and starred in the drama film “Sleepwalking.”

In 2008, she was cast in ” Hancock” alongside Will Smith, the movie recorded very high commercial success making $624 million worldwide. In 2011, she came back to the screen in the black comedy “Young Adult.”

Her performance was met with praises and a nomination for awards like the Golden Globe.

She was also cast as the ” Evil Queen Ravenna” in Snow White and the Huntsman alongside Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth.

Again, the film was named a commercial success grossing the whopping sum of $400 million. In 2014 Theron was co-starred in the western comedy film “A Million Ways to Die in the West.”

The following year, she produced and cast the movie ” Dark Places” and got another significant role in the 2015 film “Mad Max.”

In 2016, she reprised her role as Queen Ravenna in ” The Huntsman: Winter’s War” unlike Snow White and The Huntsman, this was a commercial failure.

In 2017, Charlize got another significant role in the film “The Fate of the Furious,” where she acted as the main antagonist.

The film soon became a critical success grossing the whopping sum of $1.2 billion and being recorded as Charlize Theron’s most widely seen film.

After this success, she co-produced and starred in the drama “Bomnsell,” Her performance earned her nomination for different awards like her previous works.

In addition, due to the success of her career, Charlize was ranked on Forbes’s highest-paid actress with an income of $23 million.

Her latest screen appearance was in the 2020 Netflix film “The Old Guard,” which she produced and starred in; her upcoming film project includes that of “The School for Good and Evil,” said to be released in 2022.
