Early Life
Adedamola Adefolahan, AKA Fireboy, was born on February 5, 1996. He grew up in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Fireboy was a devoted member of the choir in his local church, and he also had his primary and secondary school education in Abeokuta.
He furthered his education by attending the Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State and finished with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Career
Fireboy DML wrote songs and poems while growing up; when he turned 12, he was very sure he could sing.
At first, he didn’t consider music as a career, but upon getting to the University, he changed his heart and chose to embrace music instead. He revealed that his music was significantly influenced by musicians like Wande Coal, Passenger, and Jon Bellion.
After getting inspiration from these artists, he started performing at some school shows and gradually became popular among other students. After completing University, he decided to pursue his music career in Lagos and stayed with some friends he met in school.
Fireboy DML began attending shows and begging the organizers to let him perform. After a while, he realized he wasn’t making any progress. Luckily for him, a friend of his had some music equipment, so he decided to make his songs and write music for other people. He sold some of his songs between 30,000 and 50,000 nairas, a decision he came to regret later on.
Luck smiled on him in 2018, when award-winning Nigerian rapper Olamide Adedeji signed him to his YBNL Nation record label. Following his sign-up, Fireboy dropped his debut single “Jealous” just two months after signing.
The song was nominated for several awards and eventually won the 2019 City People Music Awards for the Most Promising Act of the Year.
He then dropped his first studio album, Laughter, Teats and Goosebumps (LTG), in November 2019. The album was positively received and had 13 hit tracks.
Some Fireboy songs include; Jealous, What If I Say, Give Me Love, You’ll Be Fine, Ajoke, Vibration, Scatter, Energy, Gas Gbos, Omo Ologo, and Wait and See.
His sophomore album Apollo was released in 2020; the album has 17 tracks and features artists like Olamide, Wande Coal, and D Smoke. Some of the songs on the Apollo album are; Tattoo, Champion, New York City, Airplane Mode, Dreamer, Remember Me, and others.
Fireboy is a promising artist with a music genre ranging from, Afrobeats, Hip Hop, Afro-soul, and Afropop, and he is no doubt taking the Nigerian music industry by storm.
