Sonia’s husband was Amado Sonia Barragan Perez, he was a drug kingpin from Mexico.
He reportedly took over the Juarez Cartel after Rafael Aguilar Guajardo the former drug lord who was Fuentes’s boss was killed.
Before Fuentes took over the Juarez Cartel, he had worked with the majority of Mexico drug lords.
Fuentes worked with drug kingpins like Beltran Leyva, El Chapo, Pablo Escobar, and the Cali Cartel. At the height of Fuentes’s career, his net worth was estimated to be over $25 billion.
He is known as the Lord of the Sky as he uses fleets of airplanes to transport his drugs.
Amado Carrillo Fuentes was born into a family of drug lords, his uncle Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo was the famous leader of the drug cartel of Guadalajara whom he gained drug business experience from.
Fuentes was born in Mexico on December 17, 1956, to his mother Aurora Fuentes, and his father, Walter Vicente Carillo Vega.
When Amado Carrillo Fuentes was 30 years old, his father passed away.
Three years after the death of his father, his brother Cipriano Carrillo Fuentes died under mysterious circumstances.
A decade after the death of his father, the authorities in Mexico and US intensified their search to capture the drug lord.

Carrillo Fuentes regularly operates his drug-related activities in a house he owned not far from the governor’s official residence.
There were widespread speculations that the governor of Morelos at the time, Governor Jorge Carrillo Olea was involved with the drug violence in the state especially, Carrillo Fuentes’s house three blocks from his residence.
This made him resign his position as the governor and was arrested.
Pressure started piling up for his arrest and this may have contributed to the reason why he decided to undergo plastic surgery to change his appearance.

On July 4, 1997, Carrillo Fuentes and his wife, Sonia Barragan Perez alongside a few of their bodyguards went to Santa Monica Hospital in Mexico to undergo abdominal and facial surgery.
Unfortunately, Carrillo Fuentes passed away from complications sustained during the surgery.
Aftermath of Carrillo Fuentes’s death
On November 7, 1997, the bodies of the two surgeons that performed surgery on Fuentes were found inside steel drums, encased in concrete. There were marks on their bodies that suggested they had been tortured and killed.
Meanwhile, his son Vicente took over as the leader of the Juarez Cartel, although his father had instructed him and his siblings to choose a different path, that didn’t stop Vicente from going into the family business.
In 2009, he was arrested for money laundering and sentenced to seven years in prison.
