How 22 year old Ghanaian scammed Amazon of $370,000
A 22 year old Ghanaian has been arrested in Spain for pulling one of the largest internet retail frauds.
James Gilbert Kwarteng of Palma de Mallorca, Spain allegedly scammed Amazon by sending returned packages filled with dirt.
According to the police, James Gilbert Kwarteng was filling up the purchased boxes with dirt, registering the same weight as the original product before returning it and asking for a refund.
According to Amazon’s return policy, an item can be returned to the warehouse within 30 days of receipt. However, Refunds are processed within two working days.
It was further said Kwarteng would request a refund from Amazon and sell the original item.
The scam went unnoticed for a long time as the return packages are not often checked at the warehouse.
It was when it was opened by one of their staff, when it was noticed that the box was full of dirt.
